Privacy Policy

What the app is

StarChaser Run is an iOS app that tracks upcoming deadlines and race days for the Abbott World Marathon Majors, plus any custom marathons you choose to add yourself. It can also show a race course on a map and, if you start it, your live position on that course during a run. It works offline with the data that ships inside the app.

Data we collect

None. The app has no sign-in, no account system, no analytics library, and no third-party tracking SDKs. We never ask for your name or email, and nothing you do in the app is reported back to us.

Location

Location is optional. The app asks for it only when you open a feature that shows your position on a course. Everything else works if you decline.

• The app requests "While Using the App" access. It never requests "Always" access.
• When you start live mode for a run, location keeps updating while the app is in the background, so the Lock Screen and Apple Watch can show your progress. iOS shows its location indicator the whole time. Updates stop as soon as you end the run.
• Your position is held in memory for the current session only. It is not saved on your device, and it is not sent to us or to anyone else. No route or history of your runs is recorded.
• The Lock Screen and Apple Watch display shows distances, such as how far you have run and how far is left. It does not contain coordinates.

You can withdraw location access at any time in iOS Settings.

Data stored on your device

The following is stored locally in your device's sandboxed storage (UserDefaults, shared with the StarChaser widget via an App Group). None of it is sent to us:

• Which marathons you have marked completed
• Any custom marathons you have added, along with their dates, notes, and optional GPX route data
• Events you have chosen to follow, where that feature is available
• Your in-app preferences, such as whether deadline reminders are on
• A cached copy of the marathon data files described below
• Standard iOS caches and preferences

Deadline reminders are scheduled on your device by iOS. They are not sent from a server. If you back up your device, Apple's backup may include this data. Uninstalling the app removes all of it.

A course leaves your device only when you choose to share it as a GPX file through the iOS share sheet.

Network requests

The app and its widget make the following requests. None of them contains a user identifier, a cookie, authentication, or an app-generated tracking parameter.

• Marathon data. A standard HTTPS GET for the marathon milestone JSON file on this hosting server. It is an anonymous static file download.
• Partner events, where available. The same kind of download for a second file listing events from race organisers, plus the images that file points to. Those images may be hosted by the organiser.
• Apple Maps. Course maps load map imagery from Apple for the area you are viewing. When you search for a place while adding a custom marathon, the search text goes to Apple. When you import a GPX file, a point on that route is sent to Apple to look up the city name. These requests are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
• Images you add. If you give a custom marathon an image address, the app loads the image from that address.
• Links you tap. Registration and information links open in your browser, and the website you visit applies its own privacy policy. Links to a partner event's website carry the label utm_source=starchaser, which tells the organiser the visit came from this app. It does not identify you.

Our hosting provider (Google Firebase Hosting) may log the IP address of a request as part of standard web hosting operations. We do not access, export, or process those logs. If you wish to avoid even this incidental logging, you can use the app offline. The data that ships inside the app still shows every built-in marathon milestone.

Third parties

The app has no third-party SDKs embedded. The only outside services involved are the ones listed above: Google Firebase Hosting for the static data files, Apple for maps, and any website or image address you choose to open. None of them receives information from us that identifies you.

Children

StarChaser Run is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from users of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here with a new effective date.

• 28 September 2026. Added the Location section and the full list of network requests, to describe the course maps and live position features. The app still collects no data.
• 14 April 2026. First version.
